Wrong Side Of 40

The ramblings of an older bloke

Why isn’t our government ashamed?

The British government and David Cameron should be ashamed.  I heard about this some days ago, but while re-reading over the weekend I found myself just becoming a little bit angry.

I read an article from 14th November regarding the Indian Prime Ministers visit to the UK and his visit to Jaguar Land Rover.  What made me mad was the quite justified comments of the Indian Foreign Minister who said

“It is my understanding that this is the largest private sector manufacturing employer in the UK. The JLR today produces 425,000 vehicles which are sold really across the world. Do note that when this was first acquired (by Tatas in 2008) it was a company which was running at a loss; it was turned around in five years; and its revenue of course have increased enormously,”

(You can read the full article here)

I don’t understand why our political leaders were not cringing with embarrassment over this.  I was so ashamed of our country at that point. What a disgrace. It took an Indian company famed for producing trucks which in their native country have cabs made of wood for gods sake, to save Jaguar Landrover.

How our politicians aren’t hanging their heads in shame is beyond me – (well, apart from the fact that they are complete out of touch self serving pigs and the current boss man is a pigs head shagging wanker of course.)

While I’m at it, and anticipating the typical politicians response, there is no pride to be had from “well it’s made in Britain of course” if the firm is owned by overseas companies and investors.  All that means is it took them to run it properly, and anyone (as it may well happen in future) can make it providing the labour conditions are right.

List the companies that own what’s left of our car industry:

  • Rolls Royce – BMW – Ze Germans
  • Bentley – VW – more of Der Germans
  • Jaguar – Tata – India
  • Land Rover – Tata – India
  • Mini – BMW – more Germans

So that’s the car industry pretty much sown up.  Then we move onto other industries:

  • David CameronScottish Power is owned by the Spanish
  • EDF (the French) own the rest of our power industry along with the Chinese (and don’t get me started on national infrastructure being owned by a state that spends a lot of its time hacking its way into the country)
  • Steel – oh yeah, that’s Tata again
  • Virgin Atlantic – half owned by Delta, so that’s the USA

I’m sure there at plenty more – that was just off the top of my head.

Meanwhile our navy is buying all its new carrier based fighters from the USA for billions while we sold all of our navy and Air Force Harriers to the USA for 100 odd million who have returned them to service.

Oh and HMRC – our tax office – banks with Citibank – the Americans again !

Why is nobody causing a fuss over this ! Why is this ignored by our press. Why aren’t more people outraged over this?!

We’re the laughing stock of the global economy and we’re too dumb to realise it.
